Most people don’t upgrade their smartwatches every year, instead choosing to keep using them until something better comes along or the battery degrades. However, unlike smartphones, most smartwatches don’t offer robust battery protection features, which limits theirSmart Watch Battery Samsunglife. Fortunately, more and more smartwatch manufacturers are starting to roll out these features, with Samsung being the latest to introduce them in its new Galaxy Watch 8 series.
In previous Galaxy Watch models, there were only two options listed under the Charging section of the Settings > Battery menu: Show charging info and Auto-power on. The former controls whether the watch displays the battery level when it’s fully charged, and the latter determines whether the watch automatically powers on when connected to a charger.
While setting up my Galaxy Watch 8 Classic, however, I discovered a third new option called Battery Protection. This new feature stops charging at 90% and resumes charging at 85%. Essentially, this feature keeps the watch’s battery between 85% and 90% of its maximum capacity.

As a result, many smartphones offer similar protections, but they typically limit charging to 80%, not 90% like the Galaxy Watch 8 does. Although 80% of the Galaxy Watch 8 battery charging limit is better for battery life, the battery capacity of smartwatches is small, so Samsung may not want to set the charging limit too high to avoid affecting the user experience. In any case, it is good to see that Samsung has finally added a meaningful Galaxy Watch 8 battery protection feature to the Galaxy Watch.
