How to see iPhone battery health and when is it time for a replacement?

Whether you’re just curious how your iPhone battery health is holding up or you’re having issues with battery life or unexpected shutdowns, it’s easy to check in iOS Settings. Below we’ll cover how to see iPhone battery health, tips on when it’s time to get a replacement, charge cycle expectations, and more.

The iPhone 14 lineup arrived with a higher cost for out-of-warranty battery replacements of $99. However, a change as of March 1, 2023 saw Apple bump battery replacements for all of its older iPhone models by $20. iPhone X up to $89 and iPhone SE, iPhone 8, and earlier to $69.
If you upgrade your iPhone every year or two, you hopefully shouldn’t have an issue with a degraded battery, unless you end up with a defective one.
But for those who have iPhones that are two years old or older, low battery health ends up being an inevitability at some point due to chemical aging along with how many charge cycles they’ve gone through.

When should you replace an iPhone battery?

TL;DR: When your battery has dropped below 80% of its original capacity you may want to consider a replacement. Same if you see a warning about your battery being degraded or if it won’t hold a charge.Under the “Battery Health & Charging” section shown above, you should see a warning if your battery health is degraded and if it’s causing issues like unexpected shutdowns and/or unable to sustain peak performance.Apple says iPhone batteries are “designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity at 500 complete charge cycles when operating under normal conditions.”If you’re in the US, replacements are covered under the one-year included warranty or with AppleCare.

However, if you’re out of warranty coverage, Apple charges a $69-99 fee for the iPhone battery replacement service.
When an iPhone battery drops below 80% of its original capacity, a feature called “performance management” may be automatically applied.

I have no desire to replace a battery that has suitable durability for me. My 3.5 year old iPhone 11 is at 76% capacity, and lasts me for 36+ hours.
Since I charge it every night, there is no need for me to get a replacement. Once it fails to keep a charge for more than 24 hours, or once it can no longer keep up with the demand I put on it, then I will have it replaced.

iPhone 14 Pro Not Charging on Wireless Charger? How to Fix

I love my new iPhone 14 Pro , but one of the things I realized when I first went to charge it using the wireless (Qi, non-MagSafe) charger on my nightstand is that it wasn’t going to work very well with that charger This was somewhat disappointing given that my wireless charger had been working perfectly with my iPhone 11; however, I realize a couple of things: 1) my charger was a fairly inexpensive purchase from a little-known brand and 2) sometimes new technology necessitates additional new accessory purchases. Despite the charging trouble, there are a few things you can do to get your wireless charger working with your iPhone 14 Pro.
In this article, I’ll tell you about my observations using four different wireless (non-MagSafe) chargers and five different cases. I’ll also give some tips for charging your iPhone 14 Pro on your wireless charger.

Why the iPhone 14 Pro has trouble with wireless chargersThe camera bump on the iPhone 14 Pro is especially large. Wireless (Qi) chargers depend on your iPhone being very close to the charging pad, and the large camera bump can prevent the back of your iPhone from getting close enough.

Exactly how well your iPhone 14 Pro will charge can depend on:
The wireless charger itself — the quality of the charger and the shape of the charging pad.The orientation of your iPhone. The case you are using on your iPhone. Many factors can come in here, including the thickness of the case, how deep the camera lens protection is and the shape of the case.Wireless charging test resultsI tried out four different wireless (non-MagSafe) chargers with five different cases from various case companies.

The four chargers included:
Two upright desktop/tabletop chargers. One charger that is built into a desktop. One wireless car charger. The cases were from Insignia, OtterBox and Speck. They include MagSafe and non-MagSafe cases, various thicknesses/drop ratings and one with a built-in PopSocket.

This is, of course, not an ideal solution; you won’t want to remove your case every time you go to charge your phone, but this could at least let you know what is possible with your current charger.Options to improve chargingAlthough some of the wireless (non-MagSafe) chargers I tested well with the iPhone 14 Pro, the best bet for charging your iPhone 14 Pro wirelessly is a MagSafe charger. There are many good options from both Apple and third-party sellers. design of these chargers is a small puck that attaches to your iPhone. The smaller size means that the camera bump shouldn’t be an issue, and you won’t have to fiddle with your iPhone’s placement on the charger — it will just snap into place.

If you purchase a MagSafe charging puck, you can use a non-MagSafe case on your iPhone, but your iPhone won’t “stick” to the MagSafe charger and so it may lose its charging connection if it gets bumped. okay for charging when the phone was correctly placed on the puck.Certainly for the kind of chargers that hold your iPhone up using MagSafe, you will need a MagSafe case so that your iPhone doesn’t slide off of the charger.

With regard to the original question of the accuracy of Find My, it is difficult to provide a numeric answer. There are some scientific studies that attempted to answer this question. For example, a study done in 2009 showed that the accuracy of the location of the device within around 8 meters (around 26 feet). Two years later, another study also found similar results showing that the accuracy ranged from 5 to 8 meters (around 16 to 26 feet). was within 10 meters (around 32 feet).Of course, we can say that these studies were done a long time ago, and there are probably a lot of improvements to this technology since then.A newer study in 2019 found the accuracy was between 7-13 meters (around 22 to 42 feet).

Why does Find My sometimes show devices in the wrong place?
