Anthropic says its new AI model can work almost an entire workday straight

Artificial intelligence startup Anthropic says its new AI model can work for nearly seven hours in a row, in another sign that AI could soon handle full shifts of work now done by humans.
The new model could bring AI  one step closer to replacing jobs as tech giants race to build ever more powerful artificial intelligence. It could represent a shift in how people use AI at work, moving from asking digital agents to accomplish individual tasks to giving these tools a broader objective – similar to the way one might instruct an employee or coworker.
Anthropic, which counts Amazon and Google among its backers, introduced its new Opus 4 model on Thursday, along with another model for general use named Claude Sonnet 4.
The new model can handle larger, more complex projects, for about a full workday operating independently, without additional prompts from a human. While that’s not exactly a one-to-one match for the kind of workday a human might have, switching among projects or tasks, it’s still a significant advance.
Anthropic says the assistant could be a tool for automating mundane aspects of the workday rather than eliminating roles.
“It’s like the kind of thing that is challenging that, you know, might represent 30% of your day, that isn’t necessarily fulfilling or professionally expanding you, but is necessary in the pursuit of being successful in your job,” said Scott White, Anthropic’s product lead for the company’sAI  assistant Claude.ai.
White provided an example of a marketer who wants to analyze previous performance to develop a new advertising strategy. Claude Opus 4 would be able to analyze the current strategy, look through the company’s Facebook and Google ads to assess their performance, notice the difference between the two campaigns and then offer suggestions as to why they may have performed differently.
“It’s basically the ability for Claude to think and reason deeply over a long period of time about your goal, while also using a set of tools with its reasoning capabilities to look at problems from new angles and continue moving the task forward,” he said.
Anthropic’s model arrives as more companies are investing inAI  A survey from venture capital firm Menlo Ventures – also an Anthropic investor – found that enterprise spending on generative AI, the type of AI that can create content and powers services like ChatGPT and Claude, grew sixfold in 2024 compared to 2023. That report also indicated Anthropic doubled its reach, eating into OpenAI’s dominant position in the market for AI’s business services. McKinsey & Company reported that 92% of companies plan to increase investments in generative AI over the next three years.
And Anthropic is far from the only one looking to cash in. Google on Tuesday announced that its autonomous coding tool, Jules, will be available to the public, while Microsoft introduced a more advanced coding assistant for its Github development platform on Monday. Apple is reportedly working with Anthropic on a new tool that can write and test code, according to Bloomberg.
At the same time, experts increasingly say AI could lead to job losses. The World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs report, released earlier this year, found that 41% of employers plan to downsize as generative AI plays a bigger role in work-related tasks. Aneesh Raman, the chief economic opportunity officer at LinkedIn, recently fretted about AI replacing some entry level jobs in a New York Times op-ed.
Anthropic’s White thinks AI will make it easier for people to grow their careers outside their formal educations, such as an engineer using AI to design a visual mockup without any design training. However, he acknowledged the need to address the issue of AI’s impact on the workforce.
“It’s not also something that only Anthropic can take a perspective on,” he said. “This is something that the government, policy makers, many companies, need to work together to understand the arc of how this is going to be implemented.

We spent a week trying out the Sony WH-1000XM6 and overall the results were great

As you’d expect, the Sony WH-1000XM6 is definitely a fine successor to Sony’s other ANC headphones. It has excellent sound quality, superb ANC performance, and is capable of satisfying demanding users. However, the lack of advanced connectivity options may become an issue over time.
The Sony WH-1000XM6 does not have a water resistance rating, and the manual specifically highlights that the headphones are susceptible to moisture. While exercise won’t damage the headphones, you definitely shouldn’t wear them to places like Niagara Falls.


Beyond that, you can enable DSEE Extreme, a volume limiter, prioritize connection quality, and a host of features that only advanced users will use.
How long does theSony WH-1000XM6 batterylast?
In our standard battery test, the Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones lasted 37 hours and 14 minutes, which is an admirable performance for a week’s worth of battery life or an intercontinental flight. That puts the Sony WH-1000XM6 firmly in the middle of the pack for top-tier active noise cancelling headphones, beating out the AirPods Max (20 hours), Bose QuietComfort Ultra (27+ hours), and Sony WH-1000XM5 headphone batteries (30 hours). In terms of charging options, the only way to charge the Sony WH-1000XM6 is through the USB-C port on the right ear cup.

Sony claims you can get three hours of listening time from a three-minute charge, and while I haven’t specifically tested that claim, it doesn’t mean the battery capacity of the headphones themselves is huge. So even without fast charging, you can get a lot of playback time in a short amount of time. The Sony WH-1000XM6 has a larger Sony WH-1000XM6 headphone battery, so you don’t need to charge it as often as true wireless headphones, which is good — batteries, especially lithium-ion ones, tend to wear out after a few years or about 500 charging cycles. However, by limiting the wear and tear on the Sony WH-1000XM6 headphone battery, you can expect a longer lifespan from the product. If you’re expecting these headphones to last at least a few years, this is great news.


How effective are the Sony WH-1000XM6 noise-canceling headphones? The Sony WH-1000XM6 is a very capable noise-canceling headphone, on par with other high-end ANC headphones. But its excellent sound isolation reduces the likelihood of high-frequency incidental noise entering the ears. What’s less obvious on this chart is that the extremely high sound isolation means the Q3 chip has a much easier job than it would otherwise. By physically blocking a lot of external noise, the Sony WH-1000XM6 allows the ANC system to perform well in the sub-1kHz region, which does a good job of canceling out external noise.

The maximum brightness we measured on the S25 Edge was close to 2,400 nits, which is comparable to the Galaxy S25 Plus and Ultra, and actually slightly higher than the iPhone 16 Pro Max, so the Edge is still very good for outdoor use. The phone uses the same 200-megapixel main camera sensor as the Galaxy S25 Ultra (slightly larger than the one on the S25 Plus), and the ultra-wide-angle camera is 12 megapixels (the same as on the S25 Plus). So we can see the sensor combination of the Ultra and Plus, but it is worth noting that it does not have a telephoto camera. The S25 Edge has a 3,900 mAhGalaxy S25 Edge smartphone Battery, which is even smaller than the compact Galaxy S25. This sounds like a downgrade. This is both good and bad – having a shorter battery life than the compact Galaxy S25 is not great, but at least it’s not much worse.
You can judge for yourself based on the ratings, but let me start with my take: If you don’t use the camera a lot (or play games, but I doubt many gamers would buy it in the first place), the S25 Edge should last you all day. And it did in the first year of owning it.
And here’s the real kicker The S25 Edge’s 25W charging isn’t record-breaking, butGalaxy S25 Edge smartphone BatteryIt takes just over an hour to fully charge, and we’re pretty happy with that. Sure, 45W charging would be better (and the S25 Plus has it), but I don’t think 25W is too high.
You also get the usual 15W wireless charging, which is even slower. And there are no magnets here (in case you were expecting some kind of miracle).
Galaxy S25 Edge Audio Quality and Haptics
The S25 Edge speakers sound surprisingly good, and I say “surprisingly” because we expected the S25 Plus to have a drop in quality, but that wasn’t the case. The sound is loud, and while it’s not industry-leading, the bass is still full and the mids are clear, so we appreciate that.


Haptics are the same as the rest of the S25 series, which is to say they’re good, but not as tight and coordinated with the interface as devices like the OnePlus 13. But if you’re fully aware of this shortcoming, I think you’ll be happy with the S25 Edge, and its incredibly light weight and ultra-thin body will be enough to satisfy you. If you have the budget, consider the HP EliteBook Ultra 14 G1q. It’s well-designed, well-built, and has a great experience, andHP EliteBook Ultra 14 G1q batterylife is also excellent. It’s worth noting, though, that its screen is dimmer than this machine’s, so it might not be for everyone.

You can also take advantage of a number of other AI features, including Co-Creators in Paint (which gives you access to image-generating features) and CapCut (which lets you remove backgrounds from videos).
