The Lenovo brand will launch two new foldable smartphones this summer: RAZR 50 and 50 Ultra. They are probably the best “clamshell” models. Explain.
It has almost become a habit. Every year, Lenovo gives us a redesign of its legendary RAZR. However, the latest models have evolved radically. If they retain the original “clamshell” format, then they are now equipped with a “foldable” screen that can be folded vertically. A direct competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Flip, the main advantage of the RAZR 50 is its price: it is sold for only 899 euros, while its competitor costs 1199 euros. Lenovo also offers a high-end model, the RAZR 50 Ultra, which mainly differs from the standard model by its slightly larger screen and, above all, its telephoto lens. It is more efficient in taking photos and is priced at 1199 euros. It must be admitted that since the appearance of the first foldable RAZR, Lenovo has been developing this model in the right direction. Every year, the manufacturer improves the technical data sheet of the device and corrects certain flaws. This year, the formula continues to evolve again, especially with the “Ultra” model, which, as we said, is equipped with a telephoto lens (to which we will return) and with a larger front screen, since it measures 4 inches (compared to 3.63 inches on the RAZR 50 and 3.4 inches on the Samsung Flip 6). The front screen remains a “gadget” in the sense that it does not replace the main screen. You will use it to show the time, check notifications, quickly activate 4G, Wifi or Bluetooth, as well as launch some applications compatible with this screen format. So you can view photos, access Gmail, launch the calculator or read messages, but don’t expect to play Fortnite, consult Facebook or swipe on Tinder. Having said that, the screen of the RAZR 50 Ultra does represent a real evolution compared to other foldable models of its kind, with real practicality. But be aware that the display of the navigation menu, aligned to the left, is not necessarily very practical. Light and comfortable to use, the RAZR 50 Ultra also stands out for its very successful design. It has a very elegant “vegan leather” finish and profiled edges. The device also features a new hinge very similar to the one on the OnePlus Open, which is more durable, elegant and practical. Once unfolded, the device reveals a huge 6.9-inch screen, but it has the disadvantage of being in a very stretched format – not necessarily suitable for all applications. In fact, it is not a very natural format for multimedia content. Having said that, we must admit that the OLED screen of the RAZR 50 is very beautiful, and the contrast is absolutely perfect. The RAZR 50 Ultra also stands out from its ancestors with an IPx8 certification, being the only foldable device that can be immersed in water. The device can withstand immersion in fresh and stagnant water up to a depth of 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. Especially practical in the event of a kayaking accident.
Finally, as always with Motorola, the Android overlay is ultra-minimalistic. There are few pre-installed apps and the user experience is excellent. Unfortunately, Motorola, which was once the best performer in its category, now finds itself lagging behind in terms of updates, as it guarantees only 3 system updates. However, for everyday use, both selfies and portraits, the device performs very well. In any case, one thing is certain: if you end up falling in love with it, it will be first of all because of its unique design, which makes it a very cool smartphone. The form factor of the device is still very convincing, and its price-performance ratio is excellent. Therefore, if you have long dreamed of a “flip” model, it is difficult not to (warmly) recommend it. Logically, you should leave completely satisfied.

TCL, owner of the Alcatel OneTouch brand, will launch its new Pop 4 series of smartphones at MWC later this month. The prices of all these leaked Pop 4 devices should be very low. The Alcatel OneTouch Pop 4S is the flagship smartphone of the Pop 4 series and comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p IPS display and Helio X10 chipset.

The X10 SoC has been around for a while now and is proving to be a favorite in the mid-range segment. The Pop 4 Plus will offer 16GB of expandable storage, LTE Cat.4 connectivity, an 8 or 13MP main camera with LED flash, a 5 or 8MP selfie camera, and a 2,500 mAh Alcatel One Touch Pop 4 Plus battery . Android Marshmallow also handles operations .

Finally, the Alcatel OneTouch Pop 4 is an entry-level offering with a 5-inch 720p display and the same Snapdragon 210 chipset as the Pop 4 Plus.
