The phone sports the same metal frame and circular camera module as last year, but pretty much everything else has changed. The front is a slab, while the glass back on the 12R is now replaced by a metal shell with sharp edges, making the phone look boxy and, frankly, a little uncomfortable to hold for long periods of time. Now, I know looks are subjective, and some people may simply find this phone attractive, but it’s my job to point out the obvious, and the design here feels like a big step backwards, especially considering how well OnePlus did last time.
Another disappointment is that OnePlus has only offered minimal upgrades in terms of water resistance, from IP64 on the previous generation to IP65 on the 13R, which means you still need to keep it out of deep water.
