You can now check if your PC can install Windows 11’s first major update – here’s how

Microsoft is putting the finishing touches on Sun Valley 2, the first major update to Windows 11 since its 2021 release, but users have been unsure if their PCs will be able to support it.

According to Windows Latest(Opens in a new tab), there is a way to go into the Registry Editor and check if your PC can update to 22H2 when available.

Known internally as Sun Valley 2, the company hasn’t made it clear what the update will involve, but a tab in File Explorer has been released, along with further updates to the Windows Media Player and Paint skins.

We expect these to appear in major updates, but of course, if your PC can’t update to it, it’s of no use to you. With that in mind, here’s how you can check.

Check the registry

The registry is the backbone of Windows and has been around for decades. It is a series of values that will determine the settings for each application and various aspects of the operating system.

Based on a certain value, the PC will follow that command in the registry. But because of its design, there’s always the danger of a bad registry, parts of your PC appearing wrong, or not working as expected at all. However, when it comes to this short guide, it’s just a matter of finding a registry value, not changing anything.

1. On your Windows 11 PC, open the Windows Registry Editor by going to the Start Menu > and enter “regedit”.

2. In Registry Editor, select the address bar at the top and clear it.

3. Navigate to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\TargetVersionUpgradeExperienceIndicators

4. Once there, open the NI22H2 registry.

If you double click on the value, it should say “RedReason”. A value of NONE means your device is ready for a feature update. However, if this value shows anything else, your PC will not be eligible for 22H2.

While this won’t explain why your PC won’t update to 22H2, you can quickly check a few things and see if your eligibility has changed. Not having the latest Windows updates installed or running out of storage space may make you ineligible, so you can just change these updates to get your PC ready for 2H22.

If all of this is in order, unfortunately, it’s probably because your PC is too old to update itself.

How to Fix Apple Notes Not Syncing Through iCloud

Apple Notes is a free note-taking solution with some very powerful features, but sometimes you may find that your notes refuse to sync between iPhone, iPad, and Mac. The problem might be with how you organize your notes, or it might be a bigger problem that’s left you scratching your head. Let’s take a look below!

First: Make sure iCloud Notes is enabled

To display notes on other devices, they need to be synced via iCloud. To do this, you’ll need to make sure Notes are enabled in your iCloud settings, and check that you’re putting your notes into your iCloud account instead of storing them locally on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

To check if you have iCloud sync enabled for the Notes app on your iPhone, open Settings on your iPhone or iPad and tap your name at the top of the list. Select “iCloud” and scroll down until you see Notes. Make sure the toggle next to the app is enabled.

You can do this on your Mac under System Preferences (or System Settings) > Apple ID. Select iCloud from the sidebar and make sure there is a checkbox next to the Notes app. You need to do this on all devices where you want to display your notes.

It’s also worth checking to see if you have enough iCloud storage for Notes to sync. Your device may warn you about running out of space, but you can check manually by looking at the colored iCloud storage bar in this menu on either device. If you’re running out of storage space, you’ll need to buy more.

Next: Check if you added notes in iCloud

After enabling Notes in iCloud, launch the Notes app and view the top folder screen or sidebar. You should see a section titled “iCloud,” but you may also see another section titled “On My iPhone” or “On My Mac.”

If your notes are stored on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, they won’t sync across devices. You need to move them to iCloud for it to work. To do this on an iPhone or iPad, tap a folder, then use the ellipsis “…” context menu button in the corner of the screen to “move” Move Notes to your iCloud account. On a Mac, you can simply drag and drop folders to the iCloud section.

You can do this the same way with notes by opening them and moving them around using the context menu, or dragging them on your Mac.

To ensure that new notes go directly to iCloud by default, check that the Default Account option in the note settings is set to iCloud. Access it under Settings > Notes on an iPhone or iPad or on a Mac by launching the Notes app, then clicking Notes > Preferences in the menu bar at the top of the screen.

You may have to wait a while for your notes to sync, especially if you have a lot of images or large attachments in your notes.

Update your device to the latest version

Sometimes, the iCloud service doesn’t work properly, and one of the reasons might be outdated software.

For best results, make sure your device is running the latest versions of iOS, iPadOS, and macOS before making any changes. You can do this under Settings > General > Software Update on an iPhone or iPad, or under System Preferences (or System Settings) > Software Update on a Mac this action.

Test your connection and disable any VPN

Problems syncing with iCloud can be explained by connectivity issues. If you are using a VPN, consider turning it off to see if this helps with your upload or download issues. You can do this using your VPN provider’s app or any third-party app you’re using.

After disabling the VPN, test the problem again by uploading or creating a new note. You can also try restarting network hardware like your router or modem and see if that helps.

You can kill the Notes app on your iPhone by opening the app switcher and flicking over the Notes app. On Mac, right-click the Notes icon and choose Quit or hold down the Option key to force quit the application when it becomes unresponsive.

At this stage, it’s also worth considering whether iOS, iPadOS, or macOS is the culprit. A simple reboot of each affected device will rule out issues caused by system processes not functioning properly.

How to Check for Apple Watch Updates

Before updating your Apple Watch, you need to update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS. That’s because watchOS updates are currently tied to iOS updates, and you can’t get them separately. If your iPhone isn’t running the latest iOS version, you won’t see the latest watchOS update on your Apple Watch or the Watch app on your iPhone.

Usually, you will see the update automatically

As long as your iPhone is fully updated and your Apple Watch is connected to the Internet, your Apple Watch will usually alert you when a new update is available.

If you tap this screen and select the “Update Tonight” option while your watch is on your wrist, your Apple Watch will tell you that it will try to automatically install the update later tonight. For your watch to update overnight, it must be on a charger and connected to Wi-Fi. The installation will begin when your Apple Watch’s battery is at 50% or higher.

Is Apple about to make a laptop with such a good battery that it can really last all day?

Since its unveiling at WWDC 2022, users have been wondering how much battery life has improved for laptops running the new M2 chip — and it’s already impressed testers.

Both the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro have been updated with the M2 chip, the successor to Apple’s Silicon program announced two years ago. The speed, power and battery life of the M1 chip and its successor derivatives were impressive, beating out previous Macs with Intel chips. In our early testing of the M2 MacBook Pro, however, its battery life easily lasted a workday, with more than 15 hours of battery life.

A 24-hour MacBook Pro doesn’t seem far away

Apple’s chip team has been running since it announced the switch from Intel chips to its own. In my own testing while playing in Parallels Desktop, I was blown away by how well Metal Gear Solid V and other games ran at 1440p.

My MacBook Pro has the M1 Pro chip – it looks like a halfway point between M1 and M2. This is mainly due to the fact that my graphics card has extra cores compared to the M1, which is likely the reason for the excellent performance I got from testing.

However, the battery still impresses me. I can run at least five apps and open six tabs in Chrome and Safari without the Mac hitting 10% after seven hours.

With Apple looking to refresh the MacBook Pro lineup with faster speeds and better batteries, it’s inevitable that I’ll see the M2 Pro chip arrive by the end of 2022. We’re not far from seeing a Mac run all day, and the iPhone is getting closer, and the M2 Pro could make that happen.

Put it in the M3 gear

Apple‘s speed of improvement on the M1 chip and above is impressive, and while I can only speculate on the M3 Pro, I’m confident that this is a major upgrade for users who want to play games on their Mac. Especially Announced at WWDC, Metal 3, along with the upcoming Resident Evil Village and No Man’s Sky, has a lot to look forward to.

I can see that playing Metal Gear Solid V again with Parallels Desktop may result in higher frame rates at higher graphics settings, as if the game had been ported to macOS.

Of course, I’m happy with my 14-inch MacBook Pro; it’s the best Mac I’ve had in the 20 years I’ve owned an Apple computer.

However, we’re getting close to the tipping point for these chips, and it’s not impossible to imagine playing Metal Gear on the highest settings. For me, that gets me excited about what my next Mac upgrade might bring when 2024 arrives.
